The perfect gift for teachers! An Illustrated Tribute to the Female Educators Who Shaped American History. Inspiring Gift for Teachers, Women in Education, Lovers of U.S. History

America was built in the classroom. Before the railroads, before the skyscrapers, before the laws that shaped a nation - there were women with chalk in their hands and an unshakable belief that every child deserves a future. This beautifully illustrated tribute celebrates remarkable American women whose teaching changed history. From Emma Willard, who in 1821 fought for women's right to a higher education, to Mary McLeod Bethune, who founded a university with $1.50; Anne Sullivan, who put the world into Helen Keller's hands; Septima Clark, whose citizenship schools fueled the Civil Rights Movement; and Marva Collins, who proved that no child is beyond reach. With elegant illustrations and moving short biographies, this book is a celebration of the teaching profession: perfect as a gift for teachers, for Women's History Month, for school libraries, and for everyone who believes that education is the foundation of democracy.
