When Coyote Walked the Earth - Indian Tales of the Pacific Northwest - Paperback

by Corinne Running (Author)

This early work is a charming collection of North American native folk tales. The myths were originally noted in the phonetic transcription employed by students when writing American Indian languages at the dictation of their informants and translated into English. Thoroughly recommended for the bookshelf of all those who hold respect and affection for the cultural, imaginative, and artistic heritages of other peoples. Illustrated with beautiful text drawings. Contents Include: The Animals Determine the Length of Day and Night, How Spring Came, The Origin of Fire, Coyote Releases the Water Supply, The Animals Determine Who Is To Be Elk, How Coyote Saved the Three Timber Rabbit Brothers, Coyote and Snowbird, Skunk and Coyote, How Coyote Defeated Wood Rat, Coyote and the Mischievous Weasel, Coyote's Adventures with Dangerous Beings, Coyote's Adventures in a New Land, Coyote and Fox Visit the Sioux Country, and Coyote's Last Adventure. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
