The first series of lectures had been on Providential Order, which Bruce considered theistic. The author conducts his survey in light of the question, with regard to the moral order, what have the wisest thought? Included in the survey are chapters on Buddha, Zoroaster, the Stoics, Job, Jesus, Browning, and modern dualism.
Author Biography
Alexander Balmain Bruce (1831-1899) was educated at the University of Edinburgh and the Divinity Hall of the Free Church of Scotland. Bruce served as minister in various congregations until 1875 when he was appointed Professor of Apologetics and New Testament Exegesis in the Free Church Hall, Glasgow, a position he held until his death.
