Author Biography

Dr. Grace Maguire Swanner [was] a local pioneer as a woman in medicine... She was the only woman in her class to receive a medical degree in 1933 from Albany Medical College... Dr. Swanner was an outspoken proponent of Saratoga's springs as a rejuvenating natural resource. In 1988, she wrote "Saratoga, Queen of Spas" and donated the royalties to the Saratoga Historical Society... She also had work published in the New York State Journal of Medicine and Town & Country Magazine. Dr. Swanner contributed to innumerable community services and served on many professional committees in Saratoga Springs.
