An Unforgettable Masterpiece That Will Enrich Your Life

The 1940 film Rebecca is acclaimed as one of the greatest achievements of the legendary director Alfred Hitchcock. This audio recording is an adaptation of the screenplay of this Academy Award winning motion picture featuring the original cast, including Sir Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.

Based on Daphne du Maurier's classic novel of the same name, it tells the story of an unnamed young woman who is trapped in a degrading job as a companion to a snobbish lady. She is rescued by the handsome, elegant, but enigmatic English gentleman Maxim de Winter, who marries her in a whirlwind romance and takes her to Manderley, his magnificent estate in Cornwall where she is confronted by a huge number of challenges which are revealed step by step through Hitchcock's masterful hand. As usual, he merges plot, setting, and character to create a haunting and unforgettable picture of the cruelties of individuals-and of the English class system.

The story constantly counterposes evil and malice with essential human decency, which is somehow able to stand up to-and triumph over-the bad side of human nature and reveal the promise of genuine love. It is a masterpiece that speaks to the fears and hopes that live in all of us.
