R.S.V.P. China - Paperback

by George E. Goerig (Author)

Meet George, a construction road supervisor whose life took an unexpected turn when he was drafted into the army in 1943 and shipped off to China.

As the sole American corporal in a foreign land, George found himself at the forefront of a unique mission: creating an air eld for the legendary Army Air Corps Flying Tigers.

Tasked with overseeing a massive team of more than 30,000 Chinese coolies, George's leadership skills came to the forefront as he orchestrated the construction with remarkable speed. Yet, amid the hustle and bustle of wartime duties, George reflects on the personal side of his journey-a young, married soldier navigating the complexities of a war zone.

In the midst of his professional duties, George shares the human side of his experiences-the adventures, the temptations, and the challenges of maintaining a connection with home. As a husband far from his loved ones, he grapples with the longing for normalcy while immersed in the chaos of war.

Through George's narrative, we witness the dichotomy of a man torn between duty and personal desires. His tale becomes not just a chronicle of constructing an air field but a nuanced exploration of the human experience in the crucible of wartime. In the backdrop of overseas assignment, George's story unfolds as a mosaic of duty, love, and the relentless pursuit of normalcy amid the extraordinary circumstances of a world at war.
