From the Hills of Home is a collection of stories written in the 1960's and 1970's about living in a remote section of Western North Carolina during the 1900's. These simple little stories were woven from a heart of love about the WNC mountains and the people who live and have lived within the realm of their shelter. Primarily they were written from childhood memories. Some information was gathered from the few remaining "ole timers".
Author Biography
Frances Baumgarner Lombard was born June 12th 1915 in Whiteside Cove, youngest daughter of the late Rev. Frank and Molina Baumgarner. She was a great- grand daughter of Col. John Heywood Alley and Sarah Whiteside Norton Alley, pioneer settlers of the Cove. Frances has lived all except three years of her life in the land of her heritage and had the privilege of living on land that was bought from the Cherokee by her great, great, great grandfather Barak Norton. She was married to Everett G. Lombard of Whiteside Cove in 1939, and was the mother of three children.
