by Melissa Powell Gay (Author)
Every Now and Then is a dual narrative of events which come before and after Iris Lee, 47, discovers a valuable objet d'art - a French military medallion - in the pocket of her mother's secondhand mink coat.
It's mid-June. Iris must endure humidity laden heat in her parent's un-air-conditioned house in the company of her moody teenage cousin who has a penchant for stealing and her mother who sometimes arrives for breakfast in her eighty-year-old birthday suit.
The valuable medallion goes missing. As Iris solicits help from Mt Pleasant's residents to locate it, she learns how her recently deceased father acquired the name "Mr. Henry" and why her Uncle Ben and his family moved to California never to return to Virginia.
Hard truths about the Lee family surface as Iris prods others to reveal a past she never knew.
A funny story with a teary-eyed twist, Every Now and Then contains the key elements for a fine Southern tale: family skeletons and redemption.
