He moved to the United States in the 1960s and pursued an education in architecture at Harvard University. In the 1980s and 1990s, Kishimoto worked as an educator and Advisor to the President of Clemson University, bringing Japanese culture and industry leaders to the Southeastern United States. He is the co-founder of Japan America Association of South Carolina, and facilitated meetings between the American Institute of Architects and the Japanese Institute of Architects.
