Description

by Arthur Machen (Author)

At once supernatural and vividly realistic, this celebrated novel follows the life of Lucien Taylor, a young man possessed by strange dreams and inner demons. In sublime prose, Arthur Machen evokes the wonder and terror of Lucien's erotic visions, and his eventual succumbing. One of the finest portrayals of the "accursed artist," The Hill of Dreams has influenced such writers as H.P. Lovecraft, Henry Miller, and Stephen King.

Author Biography

Arthur Machen was born in 1863 in Caerleon, Wales. Though his early novella "The Great God Pan" was a success, the erotic and occult content of some of his works sidelined them for years. In the 1920s, however, his writing was finally recognized as the work of a genius. His best-known books include The Three Imposters, The House of Souls, and his masterpiece The Hill of Dreams. He died in 1947.
