Haverkorn was sworn into the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1968 and served till 1982. After a brief period, he returned again to the department in 1983. In the late 1970s, he investigated 25 homicides, identified 14 individuals through fingerprints, and testified as a fingerprint expert. He became an investigator for the Police Legal Office until 1987. He then served in the City Attorney's office in many capacities ending his career as a Litigation Specialist. He retired in 2003.Care
