The story is set in a small shady backyard in the early summer. The little toad explores a vegetable garden, a warm sunny patch of grass, the brick skirt of a house, and some brightly colored toys in the yard before being discovered by a little girl who scoops him up to gently look at hime closer. She releases him down to a flower bed where the little toad comes across an old broken flower pot hidden under the greenery of some plants. The quiet, shady spot that the old flower pot creates ends up being the perfect home.
